The Basic Introduction of Servo Motor

Servo motor is an engine that controls the operation of mechanical components in the servo system. it is an indirect speed change device for the motor.

The Construction of Servo Motor:

  AC Servo Motor:

The stator is equipped with two windings that are 90 degrees apart from each other. One is the excitation windings, which are always connected to the AC voltage. The other is control windings, which are connected to control signal voltage.

  DC Servo Motor:

The structure of the DC servo motor is the same as DC motor, but the difference is that to reduce the inertia, it is made slender. Its excitation windings and armature is powered by two independent power source. There also exist permanent magnet types.

The Advantage of Servo motor:

  1, Accuracy:

The realization of closed-loop control of position, speed, and torque.

  2, Speed:

Good high-speed performance, the rated speed can reach up to 2000-3000.

  3, Adaptability:

High anti-overload performance, can withstand the load which three times rated torque. It is very suitable for applications that require instant load fluctuation and fast starting.

  4, Stability:

Stable operation at low speed and will not generate step-like phenomena like the stepper motor, which is very suitable for the applications that require a high-speed response.

  5, Timeless:

The dynamic response time of motor acceleration is very short, which generally is within tens of milliseconds.

Types of Servo Motor:

  By Application:

  1, AC Servo Motor:

The AC servo motor contains an encoder, which provides closed-loop control and feedback together with the controller. Usually, AC servo motor has advanced design and is equipped with good bearings. They have higher working voltages, higher torque, higher precision and can be precisely controlled by the requirements of applications. Generally, they are used in robots, automation equipment, and CNC machine.

  2, DC Servo Motor:

Generally, This Motor has an independent DC power supply on the windings or armature, the completion of control is realized by controlling armature current or excitation current. The control by excitation or armature has its respective advantages in different applications.

For having low armature inductive resistance, the servo motor can realize the function of the accurate and fast start or stop. Commonly, they are used in the equipment that can be controlled by the microcontroller or computer.

  By Working Mode:

  1, Angle Adjustable Servo Motor:

This is a common servo motor, which includes 180-degree servo motor, 90-degree servo motor, etc. By setting limiting equipment on the gear mechanism, the limitation of the maximum angle can be realized. Usually, they are used in remote control cars, remote boats, remote planes.

  2, Linear Servo Motor:

The linear servo motor is similar to the angle-adjustable servo motor, but the difference is that it has an additional gear to realize the reciprocating motion for the output shaft.

Applications:

1, Paper Industry: paper conveying equipment.

2, Food manufacturing: raw material processing equipment, sealing machine, food packaging, and printing equipment.

  3, Pharmaceutical Industry: decoction machine.

4, Transportation: subway shield doors, ship navigation.

  5, Medical: CT, X-ray machine.

6, Test Equipment: torque test equipment, automobile test equipment.
